Truffiere Surveys and Harvesting Services
Umami Truffle Dogs have been working truffieres on the west coast for the past 5 years, longer than any other truffle dog company in North America. Kris Jacobson with her Belgian Malinois dog, Ilsa, along with Linda Gallacher and her Novia Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Bella, have over 45 years of combined dog training and dog handling experience. No other company has the expertise, accomplishments or level of professionalism than Umami Truffle Dogs.
The very first successfully cultivated Tuber melanosporum in the Pacific Northwest was discovered by Kris and her dog, Ilsa on February, 28th 2013. Since then, UTD handlers Kris and Linda, along with their dogs, have continued to make history by being the only dogs to successfully detect and harvest commercially viable amounts of cultivated périgords and have found virtually every “first” cultivated périgord truffle in five additional truffieres on the west coast.
Kris and Linda have an unparalleled level of expertise as the premier truffle dog handlers working the only successfully producing truffieres and have an enormous amount of knowledge and experience in harvesting and monitoring techniques specific to truffieres in North America.
Their dogs, Ilsa and Bella, have different working styles which enhances their ability to work a truffiere in an extremely efficient and thorough manner. Both have been trained to not damage valuable truffles before they are harvested from the ground. This is an ability unique only to these dogs and comes from a great deal of experience working with valuable truffles.
UTD has developed a reputation second to none and there are good reasons why serious truffle farmers hire them exclusively to survey their land and harvest their truffles.
In March 2016, Umami Truffle Dogs joined forces with Todd Spanier, founder of California Truffle Orchards.
As a result of this fortunate collaborative effort, Umami Truffle Dogs discovered the first commercially-viable quantities of Tuber melanosporum in a Sonoma County California truffiere on February 16th, 2017. Ilsa quickly and effortlessly detected nine gorgeous truffles in ten minutes. She worked in a focused manner and alerted on the périgords without hesitation and without damaging them.
If you are a truffle farmer and want to find the elusive truffles that may already be fruiting on your land, the proven professionals of Umami truffle Dogs are the here to help you.
