Oregon Truffieres in the News
Today we note a new article in the Oregonian covering the emerging industry of truffle farming in Oregon. This article is a good introduction to this new agricultural product, which could replace other crops over time.
Umami Truffle Dogs is mentioned, and we have to add that we have the leading expert truffle dog team in the Northwest for surveying and harvesting truffieres, the name for truffle-producing orchards. We’ve recently found yet more cultivated Perigords, and the volumes of harvestable truffles are rising dramatically in these young farms. This is very exciting, as demand for truffles is growing at the same time that these first truffieres are starting to produce harvestable quantities. Plus, it’s great to see a new, growing, sustainable, and environmentally friendly agricultural product in the Willamette Valley.
Here’s a photo of a cultivated perigord we found. Note the exterior similarity to the Oregon Black truffle, but they are completely different species, with different aromas.
